Respond to, withstand, and recover from adverse situations.
The Resilience Group was formed in 2015, following a winter when the Strathglass Community experienced high winds, prolonged power cuts and severe flooding. It is now a subgroup of the Strathglass and Affric Community Company working under their Terms of Reference. The Main Board Director responsible and Main Contact is Alan Hood at alan.hood@live.co.uk.
The group took part in the SSE Resilient Communities Program which aimed to help communities become more resilient and cope better in the event of any major disaster. The group prepared a Strathglass Emergency Resilience Plan detailing what happens in the event of a disaster and the plan was registered with SSE and The Highland Council.
Part of the Plan identified the needs of the community and following a Grant Application to the SSE Resilient Communities Fund Cannich Hall was converted so that it can run on temporary power in the event of a prolonged power failure offering a Safe and Warm Place of Community Refuge in the event of a major disaster.
The group continues to monitor the plan and amend on an annual basis where appropriate.
